In a surprise all-school assembly, EPiC Elementary 5th Grade Teacher Deb Caywood was announced as the 2019-2020 Liberty Public Schools District Teacher of the Year on Friday morning, April 19, 2019.
Ms. Caywood has served as a teacher for 22 years, the past 5 serving as a 5th grade teacher at EPiC Elementary. She has taught in LPS since August 2008, serving as a 5th grade teacher at Alexander Doniphan Elementary (2008-2011) and Shoal Creek Elementary (2011-2014), prior to coming to EPiC. According to EPiC Principal, Dr. Michelle Schmitz, the learning opportunities in Caywood's class are endless.
"She strongly believes that students need the chance to see themselves as members and leaders of our community," Schmitz said. "She is always giving her students the opportunity to think outside the box with various projects she leads that truly make a difference for all."
